About Us

Though I walk in death’s shadow, I shall have no fear, for you are with me

(Psalm 23)

The Power of Accompaniment

In the worst moments of our lives, our suffering is often alleviated by knowing that we are not alone.

For those who are navigating end-of-life (their own, or a loved one’s), it is critical to have support, guidance, and resources. We know this from years of working with individuals and families as they traverse the sacred and mundane elements of planning and grieving. With so many systems that surround grief, death, and dying, we’ve seen how people often fall through the cracks as they are passed from one professional to the next.

At Gottlieb End-of-Life Accompaniment, it is our mission to accompany you and your loved ones throughout your journey - from planning, to saying goodbye, to grieving. No matter what stage of the process you are in when you come to us, and no matter your background, faith, or spiritual affiliation, we will do our best to ensure that you feel cared for and supported.

It is our honour to accompany you.

Rabbi Emma Gottlieb

I am a Canadian-born, Ontario-based Rabbi with over 20 years of experience guiding individuals and families through the best and worst moments of their lives.

More importantly, I am a human being, just like you, doing my best to live a life of meaning. I strive to help others do the same by grounding us in the rituals, traditions, and values that can deepen our experience of the sacred joyous and painful moments in life.

End-of-life guidance

In my years supporting Jewish individuals and families, as well as folks from other diverse backgrounds, and as someone who has experienced loss, and benefitted from guidance on my own journey, I have seen how much of a difference it can make to have someone accompanying us in both the sacred and the mundane experiences surrounding death and dying.

I also know that people who are not already held by a faith community, or anchored by strong family ties, are more likely to struggle in figuring out how to navigate everything that comes along with an impending or recent death. Offering support to those journeying along this difficult path is both a passion and a calling.

It is sacred work, and I feel honoured to be able to do it.

We Take Care of Everything

Guide, Facilitate, Arrange

Navigating the end of life often happens in different places and can unfold over varied timelines. From lawyers to doctors to clergy and funeral homes, we pass through different spaces of service, where we may or may not experience care and compassion.

Because of this, the end-of-life process — from planning, to memorializing, to grief support — can feel disjointed. As we move from one professional to the next, it can become overwhelming and confusing during a time already filled with heavy emotions.

This is why it is our mission to accompany you as you transverse these different spaces and stages, as a consistent and comforting touchpoint - with guidance, resources, and support every step of the way.

How we support you

  • Guidance, companionship, and a listening ear

  • Help with planning and documentation connected to final wishes, legacy, and memory

  • Attention to emotional and spiritual needs

  • Clear information, knowledge, and resources

  • Relief from unnecessary confusion and burden by connecting you with trusted professionals for every step of the journey
